Water Programs Outreach Coordinator
As a Grand Haven native and a resident of Grand Rapids for the past five years, Ondrea chose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management from Grand Valley State University in 2009, which she completed in 2013. Ondrea’s first internship at the Alliance for the Great Lakes endeared her to non-profit work and work with water resources within the Great Lakes region.
During her college career she took on the role as the first Teach for the Watershed intern at the West Michigan Environmental Action Council where she focused primarily on delivering watershed and storm water education, stream sampling, and volunteer coordination for two years. Aside from a brief trip abroad to South Africa and Mozambique, where she studied community based natural resources management, she stayed with WMEAC from January 2013 through June of 2014, during which she was presented with the “Intern of the Year” award.
Due to the rewarding experience that Ondrea gained during her time at WMEAC she continued to volunteer with their many programs and in February of 2015 she was hired in as the Water Programs Outreach Coordinator. Since then she has focused her time on organizing river clean-ups, planning water festivals, and leading the rain barrel program while also continuing her work with Teach for the Watershed and WMEAC’s many environmental education programs.
