Every year hundreds of volunteers will gather to spend their morning removing trash from the banks of the Grand River and its tributaries. To make this special event a success, extra helpers are needed! There are many additional ways to get involved in the Ottawa County Grand River Cleanup. If you’re interested in doing more or contributing in a different capacity, check out these opportunities: Site Leaders What does a site leader do? Site leaders are absolutely crucial to each of our Grand River Cleanups. Their responsibilities:

  • Help volunteers navigate their cleanup site
  • Encourage and exercise safe behavior
  • Keep a headcount of volunteers
  • Be enthusiastic and positive!

How does a site leader get prepared? Being a site leader requires a little more responsibility than your standard cleanup volunteer, but it’s a great opportunity to help volunteers have a good experience and hone leadership skills. To make sure that you and your volunteers have the best possible experience, site leaders are asked to attend a training session to learn about the event and expectations.

What are the details of site leader training? Coming soon.

I am interested in being a site leader, but cannot attend training. What do I do? You can still participate! Contact Ondrea Spychalski, ospychalski@wmeac.org, 616-451-3051, ext 26 to organize an alternative training time.

Headquarters Team What does the headquarters team do? The registration team helps with a number of important logistics and interested folks can get involved in a number of different tasks:

How does a headquarters team member get prepared? Interested volunteers will coordinate with Ondrea Spychalski, ospychalski@wmeac.org, to determine their roles and learn more details about the tasks.   To sign up or learn more, visit wmeac.org/grandrivercleanup. We hope to see you there!
