On this week’s episode we hear from Tom Tilma, the Interim Director of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition. He speaks about the Urban Cycling Extravaganza, which takes place in East Grand Rapids on October 13 at 4pm.
The Urban Cycling Extravaganza is put on to introduce riders to the world of cycling, to learn about the safety precautions of urban cycling and its role in building a sustainable community. Anyone interested in participating in the 5 mile bike ride will meet at the new Grand Rapids Bicycle Company shop in Gaslight Village at 4pm, with the ride beginning at 4:20 pm. The ride will end at Collins Park, where there will be a gathering of food and festivities.The festivities at Collins Park will start around 5:30 pm, and anyone who doesn’t participate in the bike ride is welcome to attend. The schedule of events is below.

Bike ride begins at Grand Rapids Bicycling Company (644 Lovett Avenue, EGR).

6 – 7:30 pm Expo and Food
Focused vendors representing local bike shops and organizations. Food and beverages provided by the Trail Head Café will be sold during the event.
6 – 7:30 pm Environmentally themed kids’ activities
Provided by Mom’s Clean Air Force: the recycling game, bagel birdfeeders, wishing tree mural, science demonstration on acid rain, yogurt planters and pinwheels.

6:20 pm How to ride safely in the street
6:40 pm How to change a tire
7 pm Bike lock demo
