A Watershed Moment: Green Corps

On today’s episode we hear from Katherine Sawyer, Grand Rapids Field Organizer for the Sierra Club and Green Corps Member, who discusses Green Corps, the field school for environmental organizing.

Green Corps is a one year training program geared in environmental organizing. The program is divided into three main components: training, campaigns, and organization placement. After training, the majority of the year is spent running environmental campaigns and working with people in the environmental and non-profit community. At the end of your time at Green Corps, time is spent applying for jobs based on the Green Corps experience so that you can have an impact in the community, whether it be toward the environmental or non-profit sector.

Anyone can apply to be part of the Green Corps program. The main groups of people who apply are those interested and vocal on environmental issues and college students who want to get involved in social change. Regardless, Green Corps gives people an opportunity to learn and grow to continue making an impact in the community.
