A Watershed Moment: Home Energy Consultation

On today’s episode we hear from Anne Marie Hertl, Energy Programs Coordinator for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, who discusses the DTE Energy Home Energy Consultation program.

The programed offered by DTE Energy is available to all residents in MI who have DTE as their energy provider. It is free and best for renters or those who want to make an environmental impact without the increased cost. “My goal at WMEAC is to connect people with different resources that are available either from the city of Grand Rapids or from our utility companies,” says Hertl.

The consultation lasts about twenty minutes, during which a DTE representative assesses your home and sits down with you to discuss all general recommendations for your home. You will receive a folder with these ideas in addition to pipe wrap for your water heater, fluorescent lightbulbs, shower heads, and sink aerators, which connect to your faucet to decrease water usage, which will also decrease your gas bill.

Although energy conservation is relevant during the winter months, the consultation will make an impact all year, especially in summer and the increased use of air conditioners. “There are a lot of resources out there…there is no excuse for people to not tap into these already available programs.”
