A Watershed Moment: Local First for Sustainability

In this week’s Watershed Moment, we talk with Local First of West Michigan Interim Membership Coordinator Anthony Puzzuoli about how Local First is helping build sustainable communities.

Local First of West Michigan is a local non-profit that works as both a local business networking tool that brings businesses together and an educational organization. Local First helps facilitate partnerships between local restaurants and local bakeries and helping small businesses find a local office supplier. On the education side, Local First focuses on teaching area residents why it’s important to shop local and how these local businesses help sustain their community.

“The Local First community is made up of ‘you’. The people that join our organization are West Michigan business owners. They are your next door neighbor, they are the people who live down the street, they are the people at your church… we are an organization of those people.” – Anthony Puzzuoli

“A Watershed Moment” is a weekly radio program focused on environmental news and happenings in West Michigan, plus solutions for living a greener life. Broadcast on WYCE-FM 88.1 on Mondays at 8:30 a.m, and Thursdays and Sundays at 5:30pm, this program is produced by Grand Rapids Community Media Center and West Michigan Environmental Action Council.
