In 2010, 9.7 million trips were taken on The Rapid. The current year projects over 10 million rides.
In 1998,The Rapid started working on a 20 year millage and completed it in10 years later, in 2008. The recent millage will take effect January 2012. It will bring extended service hours, an increased frequency, more options and connections. The later service hours will bring buses to local stops until 12:15 a.m. for busy areas and until 11:15 p.m. for less busy areas.
Kirk stresses the notion that more service would bring more “choice riders” to The Rapid, a term bringing attention to those who don’t need to take the bus but would like to if convenient. More information about the millage can be found at rapidtmp.org. Kirk said people will use public transit, but they need more service options.
