The West Michigan Environmental Action Council has been educating and leading the community toward sustainable, green living since 1968. As WMEAC works to protect the environment year-round, it also takes special pride in Earth Day by celebrating it all week.
Tuesday, April 16: West Michigan Needs Water Earth Day Celebration 2013 at the Frederick Meijer Gardens from 7-10 pm. Maude Barlow, fresh water advocate and author of “Blue Gold” is the keynote speaker.
Thursday, April 18: Green Drinks at Brewery Vivant from 5-7 pm. An informal event for professionals in the environmental field to socialize, network, and discuss environmental topics.
Saturday, April 20: Third Annual Grand River GreenUp around the Grand River and its tributaries in Grand Haven and the surrounding areas. Check-in is at 9am at Harbor Island. Buses and walking groups depart at 9:30am and return at noon. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Sunday, April 21: Habitat Brewery Challenge at Harmony Brewing Company and Brewery Vivant from noon – 5 pm. Both breweries will be collecting donations for Habitat for Humanity ReStore. For each donation you will get $1 off a beer and $1 will be donated to WMEAC. The losing Brewery will weed WMEAC’s green roof.
Saturday, April 27: The Green Market and Information Expo will be at the Grand Rapids Main Library from 10 am – 3 pm. There will be booths featuring recycled art and jewelry, organic fruits and vegetables, and information from earth-friendly organizations on green living.
