Jessica Vander Ark

Director of Environmental Education | (616) 451-3051 ext 128

Jessica grew up in Holland, MI, developing an early appreciation for beaches, hiking, and camping along the lakeshore.

Love for both the environment and for working with children led Jessica to earn her Michigan K-8 science teaching certification with emphasis in geology at Grand Valley State University.  While at GVSU Jessica was able to work on educational research projects on Climate Change for the National Science Foundation, and stream and river plume studies for the Annis Water Resources Institute. In addition, Jessica has many years of experience working with children of all ages for years as a teacher, volleyball coach and volunteer.

Jessica  has organized and worked with teams on various ‘green’ educational and sustainability projects including community outreach events, cleanups, planting, composting, recycling and waste reduction initiatives.

Through the expanding Teach for the Watershed program, Jessica hopes to inspire the next generation of Great Lakes advocates to care for our unique local resources and create more interest in the science fields.
