With hundreds of thousands of people visiting Grand Rapids during ArtPrize every year, WMEAC is partnering with the City of Grand Rapids and ArtPrize to ensure visitors reduce their footprint. ArtPrize attendees will be able to sort their items at designated S.O.R.T. Stations in brightly colored green, yellow, and red bins, complete with simplified lists of what materials belong in which bin—both in English and Spanish. There will be ArtPrize and WMEAC volunteers to help attendees properly S.O.R.T. their items.
There will be five designated S.O.R.T. Stations during ArtPrize: one at Calder Plaza, two at Rosa Park’s Circle, and two at Ah-Nab-Awen Park. These locations were chosen based on the locations of food trucks during ArtPrize, all of which are required to use 100% compostable materials, including plates, napkins, cutlery, cups, and more. The City will be picking up all recycling and compost from the S.O.R.T. stations.
WMEAC and ArtPrize need your help to volunteer at education and sorting stations during the 19-days of ArtPrize.
Volunteers will support the education of ArtPrize attendees on waste management (organic composting, recycling, and landfill) and provide observations to help improve the station for future events!
Shifts are available every day of ArtPrize September 19th – October 7th.
Join ArtPrize in its efforts to host a more sustainable event! Engage with visitors at one of our S.O.R.T. Stations while offering enthusiasm and education about compost, recycling, and landfill. By encouraging the proper placement of discarded materials, you’ll help ArtPrize’s 400,000 visitors keep Grand Rapids clean during their visit!
