Big endorsement of The Rapid millage today.
Former Congressman Vern Ehlers is back at work, backing a new initiative to increase and add Rapid Transit services to the greater Grand Rapids area.
Ehlers announced his support Wednesday afternoon at the DeVos Center on Grand Valley State University’s downtown campus.
The community-based initiative is aimed at increasing awareness and support for the Rapid’s Transit Master Plan 2030. The plan consists of increasing stops, providing more convenient connections and adding new services like Bus Rapid Transit and Streetcar in the central city.
The group backing the plan touts the possibilities of adding 3,000 jobs and investing $650 million dollars in economic growth over the next 20 years.
“Good public transportation is an incredibly important asset for our community’s future,” Dr. Ehlers said in a written statement. “A convenient and efficient transit system will connect more people to job and education opportunities, help residents and families manage rising transportation costs and promote mobility and independence for citizens from all walks of life.”

Have an open mind and read this. We can improve on the carbon emissions by building buses that will be full of riders. Buses running empty so often on so many routes ARE NOT EARTH FRIENDLY!
