August 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until August 26, 2020
Who doesn’t love a tree? Join our leisurely 6-week virtual discussion of the popular book, “The Hidden Life of Trees,” by German forester and author, Peter Wohlleben, to learn about their secret world, on Tuesdays, 1 – 2 p.m.
Discussion dates are July 21 (Foreword, Introduction and Chapters 1-6), July 28 (Chapters 7-12), August 4 (Chapters 13-18), August 11 (Chapters 19-24), August 18 (Chapters 25-30), and August 25 (Chapters 31-36, and Notes from a Forest Scientist).
“Are trees social beings? In this international bestseller, forester and author Peter Wohlleben convincingly makes the case that, yes, the forest is a social network. He draws on the groundbreaking scientific discoveries to describe how trees are like human families: tree parents live together with their children, communicate with them, support them as they grow, share nutrients with those who are sick or struggling, and even warn each other of impending dangers. Wohlleben also shares his deep love of woods and forests, explaining the amazing process of life, death, and regeneration he has observed in his woodland. After you have read Wohlleben’ s book, a walk in the woods will never the be the same again.” (From the inside front cover of the book.)
WMEAC’s Lakeshore Outreach Organizer Tanya Cabala is facilitating this discussion and will provide questions for each session, every week by a post in this event, by email (provide your email via message).
Participants are encouraged to purchase the book from the co-sponsoring independent bookstores, Book Nook & Java Shop in Montague, or Books and Mortar in Grand Rapids.
