Keeping White Lake Water Clean Project Kickoff: E.coli, Toxic Algae, + More

West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC) will host Keeping White Lake Water Clean Project Kickoff:  E.coli, Toxic Algae and More on July 7, from 7 to 8:30 PM.

The kickoff will be virtual and will provide an overview of upcoming water quality forums and events, views of local leaders on local water quality, and a quick take on the challenges posed by e.coli and toxic algae. 

Speakers are Tanya Cabala, lakeshore outreach organizer for West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC); Jeff Marcinkowski, Fruitland Township supervisor; Patti Sargent, White River Township clerk, Michael Eslick, operations manager for Public Health Muskegon County; and Aaron Parker, senior aquatic biologist for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

The kickoff launches WMEAC’s Keeping White Lake Water Clean Project that includes in person water quality forums this summer and other educational events scheduled into the fall.  Project partners include Public Health Muskegon County and the water resources commissioner; the Muskegon Conservation District; Fruitland and White River Townships; and the Whitehall and Montague Middle School Science Programs.

Funding for this project is provided by the Michigan Coastal Management Program, Water Resources Division, Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
