Teach for the Watershed Spring RAIN OUT DATES

May 30 - June 9

The 2023 Teach for the Watershed field season begins after GRPS spring break and goes through May 27th, 2023. Rain out dates will be reserved for after Memorial Day until June 9th, 2023.

Teach for the Watershed (T4W) is a place-based, outdoor education program built upon the Michigan Science Standards and Next Generation Science Standards for watersheds, ecosystems, and nonpoint source pollution. In 2018, over 1,500 students in West Michigan participated in this program and were able to see first-hand how they can directly influence the local environment.

Starting out in the classroom, your students will explore a tabletop Enviroscape Watershed and Nonpoint Source Pollution model to discover how water moves across a landscape and transports pollution from our watersheds and into our waterways. Then it’s off to the field to engage in place-based learning by using the tools of the trade like waders, nets, microscopes, and chemistry kits to assess the health of your local stream.

From April 10th to the last day of school WMEAC will be facilitating our T4W program for middle school students in Grand Rapids Public Schools, Godfrey Lee Public Schools, and many other scholars across West Michigan.

For more information regarding our T4W program please contact Kyle Hart at t4watershed@wmeac.org
