GRCC Receives $20 Million to Train West Michigan Workers
Grand Rapids Community College is partnering with LG Chem as part of a Michigan New Jobs Training Program that offers $20 Million to train potential battery plant employees.
Last summer it was announced that LG Chem and its subsidiary, Compact Power, would build a lithium ion battery plant in Holland. The plant is expected to create several hundred jobs in the next couple of years and a couple thousand jobs in a decade or two.
The plant was good news to the West Michigan economy and those looking for jobs. However, the jobs that are created by the plant are specialized and require specific training. The deal with GRCC will allow West Michigan workers to get the training they need to move into this growing enterprise.
