Speaker Profile: Dave Dempsey

This is the fifth in a series of posts on speakers and performances coming to the Grand River Water Festival.  You can read the previous ones here.

Dave Dempsey has worked in environmental policy and conservation in the Great Lakes region for 26 years.  He earned an MS in resource development from Michigan State University, and has written six books on conservation–most recently a novel set on Lake Superior.

Mr. Dempsey has held several high-profile positions involving environmental policy, including:

  • A member of Great Lakes Fishery Commission (by Presidential appointment)
  • Policy Director at the Michigan Environmental Council
  • Program Director at Clean Water Action
  • Executive Director at Michigan Council on Environmental Quality
  • Environmental Advisor to Michigan Governor James J. Blanchard
Although he is now a Minnesota resident, in 2009 Mr. Dempsey received the Michigan Author Award for his books on environmental issues, and in 2010 he joined Michigan Now Radio as an environmental reporter.  At 2:00PM Sunday we will hear Mr. Dempsey speak on the issue he is passionate about–the environment!
