Volunteers Needed for West Michigan Water Trail Development

The West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission is looking for volunteers to help plan and design new sections of the Lake Michigan Water Trails.  A training session for volunteers will be held on August 7 from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the picturesque NOAA Lake Michigan Field Station, located in Perre Marquette Park in Muskegon at 1431 Beach Street.

The volunteer training will include an overview of the project, cover the role of volunteers and the asset record form completion, and will also feature a live demonstration of documenting waterway assets.  Volunteers will be able to select water trail segments to inventory.  Light refreshments will be served at the training meeting.

Areas covered by the project include Ottawa County, Muskegon County, Oceana County, and Mason County.

You do not have to be a kayaker or canoeist to volunteer.  To sign up for the volunteer training session, contact Erin Kuhn at (231) 722-7878, ext. 18; or email Kathy Evans at kevans@wmsrdc.org
